              Tombstone Discovered

Picture

As a researcher, I always want to learn what was once known, as a historic photo collector, I want to see what once was seen, and as a document collector, I want to read what was read so many years ago, exactly the way it was written. With that in mind, I am publishing an important article on the founding of Tombstone, written by one of its founders, Richard Gird. Gird published this in "Out West" magazine in 1907, and to my knowledge, though its been cited many times, this  may be the first time that it has been republished in its entirety in 105 years.
In 1907 Gird has long since moved on from the Tombstone district, and had outlived both of his partners in that remarkable success of discovery,  Ed and Al Schieffelin. This is a key part of the Tombstone story, and there's nothing like seeing the actual pages, from the 1907 original print from my collection. -John Rose
